Anxiety sources
Question:
: (I tend to be long-winded – hope nobody minds too much,it is part : isolation and part Tourette, the best that I can figure out) Hi Isabelle, Very nice post! And not too long-winded either. <grin I like the way you pointed out that hypoglycemia and alergies can share symptoms with anxiety-panic disorders. Sound’s like you have some valuable experiences to share with the group. We have allot of good people here and many stories. My very best wishes to you and your family. Best Wishes, Arthur
Response:
It is reassuring to find this group and to read about people who have experienced what I used to think was a ‘just me’ thing. I have spent 35 of my 47 years working actively on my ‘problems’ of which phobia and anxiety or a part. I have two children now and they both inherited problems. They were diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, and my daughter has followed me in the phobia/anxiety direction but she has it younger and more severely than I did. Finding out that I also have Tourette’s has explained a lot. It is one more piece of the pie. Now I have another explanation and can back off on the "I am weird and inadequate" trip. There is one aspect of my life that might be of use to some of you though: I discovered 15 years ago that I suffer from hypoglecemia, which, when provoked, causes confusion and anxiety along with the physical symptoms; also, I am allergic/sensitive to many foods and chemicals and have had it demonstrated to me during provocative testing just what emotions or reactions are caused by what substance. For instance: I was born allergic to milk and any milk product invariably causes me to have gastro-intestinal ‘discomfort’(!!!)and also invariably causes me to feel very confused, anxious, phobia-prone, and unable to remember (sometimes even my brothers names…). The neutralizing serum that I get for these substances helps enormously (especially for estrogen which also causes anxiety as well as depression and irritability). Can you imagine finding out that what just caused you to nearly pass out and to panic was a hormone that you produce in your own body? But it was irrefutably demonstrated to Me when they neutralized the reaction and I felt relaxed and normal! In any case, this is just to let people know that there are internal and external causes for anxiety and phobias and many, many things can help. Most recently, I have been studying a Martial Art called Aikido, which is non-aggressive and sself-defense only, with much emphasis on Ki (personal energy) and centering oneself. I can feel myself reacting differently to potentially threatening situations. It’s great! If anyone would like to discuss anything that I have brought up, feel free to e-mail me. I am rather isolated at home and spend most of my energies dealing with my children and their problems, or with my husband who has similar problems but doesn’t deal with them (the same way – he takes the pull youself up by the bootstraps or suffer quietly approach). (I tend to be long-winded – hope nobody minds too much,it is part isolation and part Tourette, the best that I can figure out) Isabelle
