COMING OUT OF DENIAL, LOOKING FOR INFO
Question:
I am just beginning to look for medical help for my son who is just turning 13 and experiencing an increase of symptoms. I live in Anchorage Alaska and I am not sure whether to look into a neurologist, special education people, Attention Deficit clinic or mental health people. I went to a neurologist a few years ago but since doing my own research on the net, I am aware that I received very poor information and the doctor was not well informed regarding tourette. I am willing to travel to another part of the U.S. if there is specialized help somewhere or if someone has some ideas of what to look for here. What is hard for me is looking through the phone book and guessing at who might be good for us, paying two or three hundred dollars to walk through the door and then finding out this wasn’t the right choice for us.

Mary Jo Foglia is a contact person for TSA in the Anchorage area. I have emailed you her E-address, and she has received a copy of your post. Jeanne Valencia "Paula Gray" <pgray…@earthlink.net> wrote in message

I hope the "doctors" page of my website will help with the questions that you can begin to ask to find the right physician in your area … http://members.home.net/tourettenowwhat/doctors.htm — Tourette Syndrome – Now What? http://members.home.net/tourettenowwhat

I here in Vancouver BC and Dr. Brien Vlcek in Seattle have been seeing some Alaska cases. Some years ago the Regional Conference Committee of the TSA held a meeting there to try to stimulate creaqtion of a chapter, but it failed to materialize, despite having a truly wonderful meeting.
