My Son

Question:

My 6 year old son was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome 3 months ago.  He mostly has eye tics and eye rolls.  They come and go.  He has also begun to studder when he talks.  He also has vocalized noises in his throat, especially when he eats.  The doctor says that on a scale of 1-10 he is a 3.  I have been very frustrated about everything, and I wonder if anyone in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area  could suggest a support group that I could join.  I am new at all of this, and I need help in dealing with it.  Also, has anyone had any luck with changing of the diet or vitamins?  This is very overwhelming, and I don’t really know where to begin.

You might try Dr. Naarden Office for a reference to a support group. I can’t remember if he has a list or not but it’s worth a phone call. His number is 972-566-7684. YS

Blessed, Hey, hey, hey. What the hell are you trying to do? Ruin my mean and nasty reputation. Damn it, quit spreading vicious rumors about me, i.e. warm and funny guy. Geez, a guy can’t even be ugly any more without someone trying to portray him as a nice guy. KNOCK IT OFF, OKAY!   :) ))))))) (ducking and grinning) YS

Welcome, Smart.  I know how overwhelmed you feel (actually I remember using much stronger words than overwhelmed, so if that’s all you are, you’re doing great!)   You’re in good company here, and it does get better with time … especially if you pick up the sense of humor here on ast!!! There are two websites you can visit for help: The TSA (Tourette Syndrome Association) which can help you find a local group: http://www.tsa.mgh.harvard.edu/ and Bonnie’s homepage for a discussion of vitamins and foods: http://members.aol.com/BonnieGr/index.html You’re lucky you’re in the same state as Yosimite Sam, the warm and funny guy on ast!!  As far as where to begin … one foot in front of the other, one step at a time!!  If you need booklists, I have them too.  But an easy way to find books is to go to amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/home/home.html/9572-4705242-5… and do a search for title words containing tourette.  I ordered all of my books from there.  Be careful to avoid a book by Berecz. >The doctor says that on a scale of 1-10 he is a >3.

I’ve never heard of this approach???   Take care, Blessed
