6 year old on Dexamphetamine

Question:

My son of 6 has been diagnosed ADHD inattentive type. He is currently on dexamphetamine and he has responded well to the medication. He is in the top 2 percentile in terms of IQ and yet I am concerned that due to his illness he will not be able to achieve his potential when he reaches high school. I have heard and read a lot about grape seed and also about bark extracts. However my sons paediatrician has noted that there is no other way of treating the problem other than by using Dex etc. I write to solicit comments, of a serious nature, from those who find themselves in a similar position with young children. I would appreciate any replies to my email address thanks Mike Ross, Perth, Western Australia

An excellent suggestion.  I personally strongly recommend both bark extracts and grape seed.  In fct, there are a wide variety of fantastic holoistric and natural remedies that are 100% safe and effective. Unfortunately, there are not sanctioned by the profit-seeking Pharmaceutical companies so they are no-no for these greed-heads who place profits before people and the ability to pay huge rip-off bills over the ability to maintain proper health. Even this simple post will be attacked, cancelled, manipulated and smashed because it tells the truth!  but not to fear, I save ALL of my posts for repost just in case that happens. Take care Mike and God bless your family, Rhd. R. X. F. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Mike Ross, Perth, Western Australia

+Dextroamphetamine (aka Dexedrine) is reported as part of the stimulant family by the medical community.  Most doctors will begin with Ritalin, due to it reportedly being a safer medicine.  Many doctors recommend a child eating before the meds., since it may decrease appetite.  Dex. has not been recommended for children with anxiety, or family histories of tics/Tourette’s Syndrome.         Has your doctor ruled out all other reasons for ADHD-like behavior?  Has your dr. educated the parent(s) on ADHD, the meds. and possible side effects, how to manage and improve your child’s behavior, and how to make recommendations to your child’s teacher?  Medicine, alone, is not a recommended treatment of ADHD.           Did you know that children with high IQs can look ADHD?  The school may have to provide additional interesting outlets for your child, rather than medicating.  A parent can meet with school staff and request extra activities your child can complete when finished with normal class work.  Your child can be utilized by the teacher to bring out your child’s special talents and build self esteem.  Just a suggestion.                 donna, a counselor specializing in ADHD – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –
