Others know more than me, but I believe that generally, about a third of children with TS will lose their tics completely by adulthood, another third’s tics will lessen considerably. But there are also some here whose tics did disappear, but returned years later. tosy.co.uk

Here is a link to the Yale study on tic severity, which showed that most persons improved as they passed through adolescence.  The study was looking at tics — not at comorbid or associated conditions. http://pub23.ezboard.com/ftourettesyndromenowwhatfrm5.showMessage?top… and http://www.pediatrics.org/cgi/content/abstract/102/1/14?maxtoshow=&HI… This study reflects what most TS researchers and physicians report is their actual clinical experience as well. Dear Simon, My two stepsons both had undiagnosed TS as children (they recognised this when my son, their half-brother, was diagnosed. Today they are tic-free, for the most part. I understand that this is the more common course for TS. Why don’t you go to TSNW’s site and get more information? http://members.home.net/tourettenowwhat Do you have Tourette’s? Are you newly diagnosed? TSNW’s site is one of the best places to find answers to many questions! Benita

I have been totally uninspired in the sig department. I am sorely tempted to steal Kathy’s (Sometimes God calms the storm; sometimes He calms His child and lets the storm rage.), which I think is wonderful, but I won’t do that to her! <smile> So I continue to search in vain for a new sig… jennybravo who is uninspired and sigless… > > > Tourette Syndrome – Now What? > > > http://members.home.net/tourettenowwhat > — > Tourette Syndrome – Now What? > http://members.home.net/tourettenowwhat

At adolescence there is often a change.  Some get better.  Some get worse. Some get different.  With maturity, everyone learn how to better manage their tics.  Even if the tics get worse, with maturity people learn to manage. — RB |
