As you may or may not know, Dr. Atkins was on the Sally show today. It SUCKED!!!! You didn’t miss anything. He talked for about 1 min. No kidding. He was on for about 3 min. No kidding. It just sucked. How old is he anyway? He looked ooooold. — The strong stand tall and proud on two feet. Worms go on their bellies. Book of Gau

I am new, so to speak, here, and I saw Atkins on SJR, and you’re right! No one missed anything! She had other low-carb guests on and explained NOTHING about low-carb diets. That was one of the shoddiest reports on any program I have ever seen. Atkins looked absolutely haggard, huge bags under his eyes, and he looked like he could barely stand up. He had to prop himself on the table during his one minute of pointing at prepared dishes that you could barely tell what they were. They did show a new revised edition of his DANDR book though. Has anyone read this yet, and is there anything worthwhile in it? My 2 cents

The following passage is one which I also posted on an AOL message board this morning, so please forgive me if you’ve read this before. 
I personally think that Atkins DID do some good by appearing on this show, however brief his appearance was. I’ve been familiar with this WOE since the 70’s; I’ve seen this WOE sliced, diced, and pureed in the media, too. <g And I can’t tell you how refreshing it is for this weary traveler on the Atkins road to see a television show where NOT ONE BAD THING WAS SAID ABOUT IT. I’m not sure what his age is now, but I know that when I was first on Atkins at 16 (back in 1972!), he had already been a respected cardiologist for quite a number of years. If "age" equals "wisdom", Dr. Atkins surely has most of us beat in the wisdom department. Perhaps it’s because I’m also rapidily getting into the "old" category, but IMO, if I had the choice between taking nutrtional advice from a "young" aerobics instructor-type who picked up most of their knowledge from fitness magazines, and an "old" doctor who had studied nutrition for many years (and who wasn’t afraid to buck the medical establishment for what he believed in, BTW), I believe I’d choose "old", every time.<big grin No insult intended, just speaking my piece. If I had been fighting the AMA and all the other diet gurus, not to mention the gazillion and ten naysayers, I think I’d look 110, too. Heck, I look that old and I’m just fighting sand and weeds in my backyard
