I have OCD AND a very short temper. I am constantly feeling guilty because one minute, I’ll be talking just fine and the next, I just fly off the handle and it doesn’t take much. I don’t know what to do about this. Has medication helped any- one with the temper problem? Response:

I have broken several things because of my temper – bones, cameras, CD’s, motorcycles, etc. I now take Zoloft which helps alot. Paxil helped too, but I didn’t like Paxil. With Zoloft, I haven’t lost my temper in months. Robin

I have a problem with intolerance. Lack of perfection on others leads to anger. While I understand that not everyone can do everything *my* way, it still aggravates me.

Response:

I have had the same symptoms with my OCD. I tend to get very angry at the smallest things, even if I know what I am getting angry at is stupid. It is really hard to control my anger due to OCD and it is really hard for others to understand this as well.

Response:

I get angry with the smallest things too, but I believe some of that is Tourette temper tantrums.  I’ve broken objects, but hit no people.  I feel very guilty afterwards because I am a Christian and have a normally gentle disposition.  I’ve had these tantrums on and off since I was 2. David P.S.  Could some of your anger be from the exhausting and frustration of fighting OCD and the smallest things bring that to the surface?

Response:

Let me describe my anger attacks further.  I and others compare me to the Incredible Hulk.  Like the fictional Dr. Banner, I am normally a mild mannered fellow.  But when things become overwhelming for me, I lose control like Dr, Banner.  And like Dr. Banner, I am on an endless quest to get rid of the Hulk. I throw and break objects and hit myself, but not others.  The rage is blind and impulsive.  Actually I have not had a rage attack in 4 weeks, but I still shout and bellow out in anger at times.  I’ve had these problems since age 2 and here I am 27 years old! David
