Orap – Side Effects

Question:

I have had tourette since I was 11 and am now 22.  Once last year my nuerologist tried to switch me to orap from klonopin.  I had an allergic reaction-my jaw locked up an d my muscles were all tight.  I would ask your sons nuerologist to switch him to klonopin-it’s been safe for me, though I have a tough time paying attention and communicating sometimes.

Response:

I did not see the original post for this but in our case my 11 year old son has been on Orap for well over a year and has had no side effects.  It helps his tics but does not eliminate them.  I have a friend whose son has now started klonipin and she reads this NG (he too had a bad reaction to Orap) and is wondering about taking him back off in the future.  (side effects, withdrawal etc.)  Any advice?  ( he too is 11) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Ngm9595 wrote in message <19990331181929.10025.00000…@ng142.aol.com>… >I have had tourette since I was 11 and am now 22.  Once last year my >nuerologist tried to switch me to orap from klonopin.  I had an allergic >reaction-my jaw locked up an d my muscles were all tight.  I would ask your >sons nuerologist to switch him to klonopin-it’s been safe for me, though I have >a tough time paying attention and communicating sometimes.

My 10 year old son was switched from Haldol to Orap a year ago, with very positive results.  Within the last 4 months, however, we have noticed a considerable weight gain (he also did this on Haldol and then lost it) and, just this past week, has had urinary tract problems (frequency, buring).  I took him to the Dr. and nothing showed up, but I’m wondering if Orap could cause this.  I tried to find some info out on the internet, but didn’t have any luck.  I’d appreciate any help. Thanks.
