What's new?

1. Miniature porcelain, china, and glass shoes. 2. Little Dot comics (a more recent colection). 3. Sugar and Spike comics. 4. Reading, PA items. 5. miscellaneous others. My house is FULL of chotchkus (some sort of Yiddish word for small items i.e. junk). I am an avid garage sale person, auctions, house sales, etc. I really have a small antique business in an antique center at the Jersey shore (been there for 20 years), so I also buy on ebay for that. Definitely sounds likes chotchkes! Sounds like nice hobbies! Who does your dusting! Ha! Jo

Oh yeah, it’s a one-of-a-kind, never to be forgotten smell when there are too many boys in a room. Think of the poor teachers! (We’ve got a jog-a-thon tomorrow – I MADE my son take antipersperant(sp?) to his dad’s house, even though dad believes it will kill him to wear it.) Sara

I’ll chime in too…. school is going really, really well for my son – his teachers are angels from heaven this year. They are helping him navigate the landmines of friendship problems and music class (he actually SANG in class today, which he has flat-out refused to do for two years.) His anxiety level is WAY down, he is participating in class and making new friends. His OCD has not caused any real problems in quite some time. Personally, I’m struggling, as I took so much time off from work last year to be home with my son, and my ex is now unemployed. And my Southern California mortgage isn’t going down along with my income!! My best friend is moving to Seattle, which is very hard. But other that THOSE minor details, life is good!! Thanks for asking! Sara

Hi!! I’m a bit late for this thread but I decided to add my update. Mat is doing great in school. He’s finally first in his class, something he’s been trying hard to achieve. He’s doing great on Clonidine but he’s anxious to get off of them which his doctor and I agreed that June would be a good time. Mat is working real hard at keeping his rage attacks to a minimal. I can really see him struggle when it just wants to come out and he so desperately keeps it in. That love of mine is just no quitter. The down side of him doing so good, the teachers don’t believe that he has such a tough time keeping his focus on school work and "I’m sorry but, no he can not go to the bathroom when he wants too, the rest of the class can’t either". UGH! That gets me soooo mad. But Mat tells me it’s ok, he doesn’t need to go. Mat’s tics have all been facial except much to my disappointment, he started a neck/head hard side jerking. Of course, I tell him how cute he looks when he does his "robot dance". He told me he’s figured out a way to stop his tics. He tells me he concentrates real hard, won’t allow the tic to come out and waits for that sensation to pass. He says if he does this often enough, it just goes away. That love of mine is so strong. Phew… sorry it’s so long… don’t get me started. lol. Oh, and Mat and his older brother: constant fighting!! but at 11 and 13, this is to be expected, oh and Heaven help me, that boy smell is potent stuff, even the dog retreats to my room. lol I hope all is well with all of you!! and Chaim, I’m so happy to read about your great happiness… finally! Thought I would just add my little bit to this thread. Thanks, Jo, for starting a nice one! Was really busy since both my boys were home from college for over a month. Finally, both are back to school and the washing machine, dishwasher, and bathrooms are back to normal. And what is it with that "boy" smell that their bedroom gets??? All my friends with boys say the same thing. Get too many boys in a room and "that smell" is there. Not so with my daughter and her friends. heehee We did get to go on a 5 day vacation to the Bahamas and had a great time. Took 3 of my nieces and nephews also. A little cool, but fun. So now calm has set in. Back to work, volunteering for several organizations, and looking for my collections on ebay. Jan

This reminds me about a conversation I overheard at an office I visited earlier this week. I was in the waiting room, waiting for my tax advisor to finish printing up some of my paperwork. Apparently, they needed a data entry clerk….and quick! Sitting beside me in the waiting room was a beautiful, professionally dressed, sophisticated-type woman waiting for an interview. We spoke for a few minutes. She had been searching for a job for nearly 6 months now. She was only 34 years old, married, two children, and a Notre Dame Graduate. About 7 months ago, she and her husband were laid off by Conseco. She was an Accounting Manager when she worked there. After being laid off, her family moved to Florida because they needed help from family. Her husband got a job at the Tampa Airport working as a screener but was laid off again a couple months ago. She REALLY needed a job! Anyhow, my tax advisor called me back to his office shortly after she was called back for her interview with the office manager. I once again ended up in the waiting room and was there when this woman completed her interview. She got the typical "I will check your references and get back to you." As soon as she walked out the door, I was floored by what I saw and overheard. The office manager looked at the receptionist and said "Here, shred this. There is no way I am hiring someone who has enough qualifications to take my own job. I’m not that stupid." So, I guess it isn’t always a good idea to let on that one might know more about something than the person that is doing the interviewing. (Oh, and I felt it was my place to let my tax advisor know what I had overheard. His face was as red as a cherry when I left! Maybe HE will be calling that woman in for an interview now! At least I hope so. I’ll take my business elsewhere if I see her in there when I go back next week!) Kimber
