I don’t know if it’s Blurt’s server, or if it has to do with his switch from Flashnet [which would still be Prodigy's fault] – but I’ve had Prodigy for two years, and I’ve only had problems with newsgroups maybe three times in those two years. And the problem was resolved within hours. I’ve never had a problem with my Prodigy email service. Kristina

I’ve never had a problem with either email or newsgroups with one major exception: an upgrade of Prodigy software left my older modem unable to ‘recognize’ what it needed to in order to work properly. A new modem solved the problem, after much investigating from three different directions…sigh….it took a month. The only problem with Prodigy I ever have is generally on Fridays at times, when they are doing some sort of maintenance/upgrading of my local server. The problem is generally resolved rather quickly, resulting only in a couple of hours or so offline. I’ve been a Prodigy member for about 10 years. KAT In CT

I end up having to use 3 different Prodigy newsservers, because of switching when one messes up. The one I have used most is the same one you said you use, news.prodigy.net. That one got hosed the other day, and has several times before. Also, we’ve discussed before why you might be a lot less aware of missing messages, since you don’t OCD over making sure you read (and reread again before responding) everything posted. And I surely doubt KAT OCDs over it, either. Just doesn’t seem to be her style. > or if it has to do with his > switch from Flashnet
Yup. From everything I read on their help newsgroups, there are worse problems for former Flashnet accounts. > [which would still be Prodigy's fault]
Yup. Especially since another broken promise of theirs was that the quality would remain the same with the takeover by Prodigy, while in reality, there was an immediate big drop in quality, which has only gotten worse since. But hey, Kristina, I still appreciate your info on this. You too, KAT. Today’s the last day for me to quit without having to pay for another month. I still think the undependable service could be a big help for me breaking my ast addiction, but that can (and so far HAS) backfired. I’ll make a decision soon, or else a decision by indecision (which I am VERY good at!). Problems with email at the moment. Call 1-800-213-0992 and a recording comes on announcing email problems. Same yesterday. Tons of messages in their help newsgroups about current email problems. Several different problems. This happens more and more often. Also, very often those groups are flooded with messages from people having problems with newsgroups at the same times that I am having problems. They make a lot of excuses and try blaming anything but Prodigy. Though the problems are not just for former Flashnet customers who pay less, because Flashnet was cheaper than Prodigy service, the problems are more extensive for us. A big issue that people complain about on their help newsgroups is that their status page never acknowledges problems, but their excuse for that is that the people who are responsible for that page are not in communication with the people who identify and work on the problems. They broke their promise of improving newsgroup service and reporting on every friday on their progress. When somebody politely asked about it, the guy in charge of newgroups posted a nasty reply. He also posted someone’s usenet posting history when she complained about problems. I could go on and on, but I won’t. Blurt

I didn’t post what I did to rehash our old discussion about whether Prodigy provides good service or not, Blurt. I posted it so that anyone who might be interested in it can see that not everyone has had the same problems. Kristina

And this came out a whole lot more abruptly than I meant it. Sorry. Kristina

Sure, I understand that. But in addition, I still appreciate your input. Blurt

If you’re worried about sounding like a snark, forget it! You don’t fit that characterization at all. In fact, if you were to want to become a snark, you’d have a lot of work to do. You’d need a complete overhaul of your personality. Blurt

ROFL! When I was typing the apology, I wondered if you’d remember "snarky". Kristina

Often when i revisit a group i haven’t read for a while, i just mark them all read, click on where it says "date" so it displays in ascending order of time sent, highlight & unread however many recent posts i can be bothered reading, then click on thread to sort by thread. BTW, you’re still using V1.7: ftp://ftp.forteinc.com/pub/agent/a32-18.exe

In other words, Prodigy sucks, eh???? jennybravo

I just had a computer problem. Okay it’s my fault; I ran out of disk space. Forte Agent is a pretty good program, but it doesn’t deal with disk errors well. I had several message which I had marked unread so I could reply later. They are now all marked read. I can: 1) Let them all go 2) Drive myself crazy rereading everything in a.s.t. 3) Try to remember which messages I want to go back to, and then look for them. The hard part is doing this without falling into 2. I deleted some old crap, and got things reorganized. In the process I noticed that in 2000, a.s.t had 17,690 messages totaling 66 megabytes. — RB |
