Please help me understand my husbands disorder – It is getting worse!

Question:

He really needs to see a trained pschyciatrist that specialises in TS/OCD pronto. Not to be a shrink, but unlike neurologists, they are trained to go beyond the physical symtoms of TS and OCD. James Man is still the most extraordinary computer of all.                                 -John F. Kennedy                                           (1917-1963)                                            Presidential speech: 21 May, 1963

I am not a social worker or anything like that, but I would say that your first responsibility is to be concerned with the safety of your children and yourself.  Get ready to call the police and have a restraining order put on him, he doesn’t sound well. In my opinion he is already abusing you and the children with threats and creating an unhealthy environment.  Get in touch with a battered womans group and al-anon now so you have some local support, someone to call and talk things over with. good luck dw

Agreed — regardless of the cause of your husband’s behavior you have a right and responsibility to ensure your safety and that of your children. Betty

I do not usually frequent this ng, but happened to read some posts today, and yours caught my eye. My husband has had tourettes since his teen years and also would not take medication. Fortunately, he was diagnosed with a "mild" case, and was able to function well on his job, etc. However, he was a very gentle man and wouldn’t kill a fly. It sounds to me as though your husband has other psychological problems and probably needs some medication for his irrational anger. Please follow the advice already given here and protect your children and yourself. It is selfish of him to be uncaring about his own family. You need to start by taking responsibility for your children’s safety and your own. I would not live with a person who threatened his own child in this manner. I need answers and don’t know where to start… My husband suffers with tourettes and ocd.  He has for the 17 years I have known him and before that as a child.  It was only 5 years ago while in counselling for our marriage that we discovered the diagnosis of OCD.  His mother had always wondered about Tourettes but my husband would not listen.  He blamed his problems on his mother. To make a long story shorter, my husband is set off by stressful situation and the big one is the children.  For some reason just certain things they do like licking their lips or sniffing their nose.  If not stopped he blows up in a rage of ticks and outbursts of profanity.  Yesterday this happened in the worsed way ever that for 2 hours in the car driving back from a trip he was set off and was overcome by his condition so severely that I had to make him pull the car over and let me drive.  5 hours later he called on the phone to yell threats (horrible threats) that if our son stuck his tongue out one more time in his presence he would cut his fricken throat (I am useing nice words, his were not).  This is my cry for help as I am scared for my children and need to know if someone with tourettes ever acks out there thoughts. Someone please e-mail me as I need help for my family…………..He will not get help.  He said he would rather lose his family than get help.  He says the side effects of meds would be worse than the ocd and tourettes.  I don’t understand that. Please write….. Sarah Lynn SaraLyn…@aol.com
