Tourette Syndrome
Question:
Does anyone have information about Tourette Syndrome? My 13 year old son was diagnosed last fall w/this. He’s also been diagnosed w/ADD & was in an LD class in school. Is there anyone else out there whose child also suffers from Tourette?
Response:
My son’s one Dr (also my Dr) believes that my son has Tourette’s he has vocal inflections and tics. He barks and meows. His father, my ex-husband, says it’s for attention. I don’t know what to think but I know I don’t want my 12 yr old on Haldol on top of everything else he takes. In addition, we now see that puberty rears it’s ugly head and he is getting more and more out of control. I think a residential placement is going to be in order. Scary for me. I think there is a Tourettes support Newsgroup. good luck Nessa Does anyone have information about Tourette Syndrome? My 13 year old son was diagnosed last fall w/this. My 7 YO ADHD son also has Tourette’s (though mildly–thank goodness). I was very surprised by the diagnosis and still question whether his tics are just nervous habits. Who can say with a 7 YO how much control he has (or should have) over them. But the behavior problems that are supposed to go along with the ADHD/TS combination certainly are glaringly evident. I spent some time doing research and found that it is not uncommon to have TS (or depression, OCD, ODD or bipolar disorder) along with ADHD. In fact, there is something like 60% (I’m sorry I forgot the actual number–but it is high) of people with TS also have ADHD. I found alot of information and support in alt.support.tourette. Good luck to you and your son. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::: Someday I’ll wear pajamas in the daytime and afternoons will be measured out in coffee spoons. — "The Crash Test Dummies"
