Medication changeover
Question:
I am having to take my nearly 15 yr old son Keith off Haloperidol and put him on Clonidine. He has complex learning difficulties and autism as well as multiple features of Tourettes. I have detailed instructions from his neurologist as to how to slowly seque one drug out and the other in at the same time. Just one afternoon into this process Keith is climbing the walls with irritability and seems very miserable. He was suffering depression before he started. ( I really wanted something like Nortriptyline instead.) Fangbasher has sent me lots of very useful info on Clonidine but I wanted to additionally ask has anyone else had to do this changeover between these particular drugs and how did it go? I had to stop Keith from marching off out the house this afternoon he got so riled up. Just how far do I let mood swings and so on go before getting alarmed? Any comments would be appreciated, Tische.
