My son recently diagnosed

Question:

i am nineteen and i have tourettes.  Its hard. I know.  Yelling at him will only make him more nervous.   When he gets stressed out take a walk with him. That  hlped calm my tics down alot. caffiene increses the ticks extremely. They have caffiene free sodas.  By age it should calm down.  I still tick but it has calmed down alot.  Its hard I know.  But tell him to hang in there and it will be ok.

My 22 year old son was dxed at 10 yrs. old also. He has some motor tics, but also had/has throat clearing, as well. It comes and goes usually related to a cold. Then the throat cl. lasts from weeks to months. It annoys him alot because he knows it must annoy others, especially in quiet classes. >It breaks my heart to watch him >go through this and helpless to fix it.

Ditto! Still upsets me when I see his shoulder tics…. Just on a good note for you….it hasn’t stopped him from doing ANYTHING. He played baseball, basketball, tennis, many HS activities, and graduated with a 3.4 average from college, then on to NYU for grad school next year. Great kid who happens to have TS….. Jan

I have one son who is 15 and has had tics for about 7 years. We have made sure to keep involved not only in sports, motorcross, etc.but also with all information relating to his tics. His nickname within the dirt bike group he rides with is twitch. It is wonderful to listen to his friends talk about the facts sourounding tics and to to know just how interested they are in there friends twitchy problem.                                 Mike Garcia

I was diagnosed (finally) about a year ago after 25 years of suffering with TS, I do remember all the tics you described although those have faded for me only to be replaced with others…..I am responding to this string because the nickname "Twitch" brought back memories (good and bad) I was reffered to as Twitch often in grade school. Over the years the best medicine for me has been knowledge and open honesty with my peers about my condition. I always had a smaller circle of friends than most kids due to my TS but the friends I had were always "true blue". This holds true today at 32. TS has had some benefits you could say. I can gar-un-tee you that his father yelling at him did not help. It’s a well known fact that stress ( or pressure ) will only make a tic worse. It sounds like the father needs some classes on TS himself. Mark "Mwaakisses1" <mwaakiss…@aol.com> wrote in message
