Tourettes/OCD/ADHD
Question:
My son was diagonsed with TS/OCD/ADHD a year and a half ago. We first started with haldol, no luck, then tenex, no luck , then luvox, no luck. We started on Orap about 1 year ago. So far so good. Since then we have added Adderall for ADHD and Prozac for OCD. His tics got a little worse but it is worth it for the behavior control at school. I have’nt noticed anyone mention this combo. Is it very popular? He is still going through some depression and has trouble at school staying on task. Any info or suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks, Leslie
Response:
my daughter diagnosed TS at age 10 was put on Klonopin. Over time dosage increased to maximum level, then clonidine was added. This didn’t relieve all tics but made life more manageable. at age 14 klonopin was reduced by 25% since tics had also decreased somewhat. She was also diagnosed ADD at age 15. She also has OCD and HD but not formally diagnosed since they are relitively mild and manageable. We try to medicate as little as possible. If she were off both her meds perhaps the OCD and ADHD would be more pronounced. As to the depression, we are always dealing with that. But there has been marked improvement. At age 12 my daughter took the attitude that TS was a "normal" part of her just like being extra short, or wearing glasses, or having extra curly hair was for other kids. I guess you could say she took ownership of the TS. She ran for student govt. secretary and part of her campsign speach was 5 minutes explaining TS to a student body of 1100 kids. They applauded and she was elected. She still has a few problems with teasing but they are minor. She is in a high scholl of over 2000 and rarely has to defend herself, too many other kids understand and defend her first. It is not a "cool" thing to tease her. Infact in middle school an entire class almost got out of control with their indignation with a substitute who chastised my daughter for her noises. The kids were surprised that an adult didn’t know about TS when they, at 13, did. She still wishes she didn’t have TS, but I’ve actually heard her say one one accasion that she can see some benifits from it!!! hang in there,kc – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -LeslyBB wrote in message <19980110054400.AAA14…@ladder02.news.aol.com>… >My son was diagonsed with TS/OCD/ADHD a year and a half ago.
